Where can you find funding for the arts, teacher training or even joining the consortium? According to a letter from Secretary of Education Rod Paige, Title I, Part A can be used for arts education, Title II Teacher Quality Enhancement Grants can address teacher training, and portions of Title II funds can support joining nonprofit, arts/cultural organizations. Clearly, you can use parts of Title II funding to join the Alaska Arts Education Consortium.

Benefits

As a member of AAEC you will receive:

  • Priority space for teachers from your Title I schools for our 2008 Basic ARTS Institute to be held in Juneau and Fairbanks in July-August. Funding for teacher travel, food and housing is provided in part by three federal grants aimed at demonstrating that the arts can increase language arts achievement for students. This benefit alone is worth the membership fee.
  • Priority space for your teachers in the 2008 Institutes (limited to 30 per institute), summer 2008 in Juneau and Fairbanks.
  • Districts joining at $1000 level receive inservice support.
  • Access to communications networks and resources.
  • Recognition in Alaska State Council on the Arts and other state publications.
